Esthetics & Function

At Swanson Dental Associates, we offer many cosmetic options that can enhance your smile with natural-looking results.
Sometimes cosmetic services are part of a reparative treatment, and sometimes they are used solely for esthetic reasons. However, even in cases that are purely cosmetic, it’s very important that function and alignment are taken into account. Your updated smile should feel just as good as it looks!
We provide in-office teeth whitening with Phillips Zoom. This involves a teeth whitening gel and an in-office treatment. You will see results after one treatment. We also offer custom-made bleaching trays that you can use at home, which will brighten your smile over time.
Composite bonding is an excellent option for many patients. We apply a tooth-colored composite resin to your tooth or teeth to repair damage, such as a chip or crack. It can also be used to close minor gaps or to reshape teeth. Sometimes a patient comes to us thinking that they want veneers and then discover that tooth bonding is an option that can create similar results while being more conservative and less expensive.
For a full smile makeover, many patients choose dental veneers, which are custom-made tooth-colored covers that adhere to the front of your teeth. They can change the shape, size, color, or length, or can transform your smile. We use a composite material at our office. Unlike porcelain veneers, which must be replaced if they chip, a composite veneer can be repaired.
We offer a treatment called Black Triangle Closure, which eliminates tiny gaps between the teeth near the gum line. These are the type of gaps that can make you appear as if you have a piece of black pepper stuck between your teeth. Black triangles often develop after orthodontic work is complete. When previously crowded teeth spread out and realign, sometimes the result includes a very small space between the gum line and the teeth. Dr. Swanson treats this with a simple bonding procedure that closes the gap, and he wrote about his technique in an article for the December 2018 edition of Inside Dentistry.
If you want to straighten your teeth or correct bite irregularities but you don’t want traditional wire braces, Invisalign braces are a great alternative that we offer. With Invisalign, you wear a series of clear, plastic aligners that move your teeth into position over time. They are often referred to as “invisible braces.”
Crowns and bridges can also improve the esthetics of your smile. You can read more about these two treatments in our Reconstructive Services section.
If you’re looking to brighten or enhance your smile, please call our office today to schedule an appointment.

We partnered with Illumitrac to launch an in-office loyalty plan to help manage the cost of dental care for the uninsured patient. Please ask for details or visit our Illumitrac Loyalty Program page.

Often referred to as “invisible braces," Invisalign is a great alternative to traditional wire braces. Using clear aligners, Invisalign can straighten crowded, crooked, or gapped teeth, and it does so typically faster than traditional braces at a similar or lesser cost. We offer Invisalign here at our office.
Schedule an appointment with us to find out if this treatment would be a good option for you. For patients in need of more extensive orthodontic work, we can refer you to a trusted orthodontist.

Over 60 years ago, the original founder of Swanson Dental Associates, Dr. Richard D. Swanson, graduated from the University of Washington School of Dentistry, where he later also served on the faculty. His son, Dr. Kris Swanson, followed in his father’s footsteps, graduating from the same program in 1983. Associate Dr. Brian Mills is a third generation Washington Husky and also a proud graduate of the University Washington School of Dentistry.
UW’s dental program has long been recognized as one of the strongest programs in the world. As of 2019, the University of Washington School of Dentistry was ranked No. 2 in the world among dental schools in the new Academic Ranking of World Universities by the ShanghaiRanking Consultancy.
Go Huskies! (But don’t worry, we also love seeing patients who are WSU Cougars or other Husky rivals).

We are accredited through the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. AACD's Accreditation Program was formed in 1985 and began offering postgraduate certification in the field in 1986. AACD Accreditation has grown into the preeminent cosmetic dentistry testing standard within dentistry, including written exams and submission of actual case-work in specific cosmetic dentistry disciplines.
Seeing an AACD accredited dentist helps to ensure that you are receiving care from a dentist with advanced knowledge, skills, and expertise in cosmetic dentistry.

Each year, Seattle Met Magazine assembles a list of the best dental practitioners in the Seattle metropolitan area. Dr. Swanson has been voted “Best DDS” every year since the award’s inception in 2007. In 2020, both Dr. Swanson and Dr. Mills were awarded this honor. When you come to our office, you are seeing not just one but two of the top dentists in the Puget Sound area.
