Trustworthy & Reliable

At Swanson Dental Associates, our philosophy is that reconstructive dentistry must take into account the patient’s entire mouth, even if only one or two teeth are being treated directly. Function and esthetics should go hand in hand, and each patient’s case is unique.

We believe in educating you about your risk factors and care options, so that you can make a treatment choice that fits best with your needs and concerns. Whenever possible, we prefer to satisfy oral health goals as conservatively as possible, preserving as much of your existing tooth structure as we can. (As an added bonus, more conservative treatments usually save you money too).

Dr. Swanson has spent the last three decades taking continuing education courses in advanced dentistry, participating in study clubs, and mentoring other dentists. He makes it a priority to stay on the cutting edge of current treatments and methodologies in the dental and medical fields. His associate Dr. Mills shares this philosophy.

Dr. Swanson is a graduate of the world-renowned Kois Center, which trains dentists in advanced restorative techniques. Dr. Swanson began taking courses there right after he graduated from medical school in 1987 (at that time, it was called Creating Restorative Excellence). Today, he is one of their esteemed Mentors. Additionally, just out of dental school, Dr. Swanson began participating in RV Tucker Cast Gold Study Clubs. He spent five years as the director of Tucker Institute as well. This organization fosters dental study clubs around the world teaching and encouraging clinical excellence along with advanced conservative gold restoration techniques.

No matter what kind of reconstructive services you are seeking, rest assured that at Swanson Dental Associates, you are being offered the best treatment options and are taken care of by the brightest minds and most skilled hands.

When a simple filling can’t fix your teeth, crowns and bridges are often used to replace larger amounts of missing tooth structure and restore the function of your bite. They are also preventative in nature, because they can prevent further fracturing of your teeth. Additionally, they can improve the appearance of your smile.

Sometimes a bite adjustment is needed to bring your teeth into proper alignment. Your teeth may not be the same height, which means that one or two make contact before the rest of your teeth when you bite. This puts added pressure on those teeth, and over time you can develop hypersensitivity, tenderness, and pain. A bite adjustment procedure is very simple and involves gently filing the areas of your teeth that are making extra contact.

Dental implants are a stable replacement option for missing teeth. They function like artificial tooth roots. A titanium post is surgically positioned into your jaw and will integrate with your natural bone.  After it has fully integrated, it will be ready to restore with a crown (tooth). Crowns match the appearance of your natural teeth and restore functionality to your bite. In some cases, Dr. Mills can place implants here in the office. However, in most cases, we will refer you to a Periodontist who specializes in implant placement.

Dr. Swanson takes care of cases that involve full-mouth reconstruction, often combining many of the aforementioned treatments and techniques. If extensive oral surgery is needed, we will collaborate with a trusted oral surgeon and provide you with a referral to ensure that you are getting the highest quality of care at our office and theirs. The end goal is to give you back a healthy, fully functioning bite that looks beautiful when you smile.

Please call our office today to schedule an appointment to go over your reconstructive needs, concerns, and goals. We look forward to being your partner in achieving excellent long-term oral health.

Often referred to as “invisible braces," Invisalign is a great alternative to traditional wire braces. Using clear aligners, Invisalign can straighten crowded, crooked, or gapped teeth, and it does so typically faster than traditional braces at a similar or lesser cost. We offer Invisalign here at our office.

Schedule an appointment with us to find out if this treatment would be a good option for you. For patients in need of more extensive orthodontic work, we can refer you to a trusted orthodontist.

Over 60 years ago, the original founder of Swanson Dental Associates, Dr. Richard D. Swanson, graduated from the University of Washington School of Dentistry, where he later also served on the faculty. His son, Dr. Kris Swanson, followed in his father’s footsteps, graduating from the same program in 1983. Associate Dr. Brian Mills is a third generation Washington Husky and also a proud graduate of the University Washington School of Dentistry.

UW’s dental program has long been recognized as one of the strongest programs in the world. As of 2019, the University of Washington School of Dentistry was ranked No. 2 in the world among dental schools in the new Academic Ranking of World Universities by the ShanghaiRanking Consultancy.

Go Huskies! (But don’t worry, we also love seeing patients who are WSU Cougars or other Husky rivals).

We are accredited through the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. AACD's Accreditation Program was formed in 1985 and began offering postgraduate certification in the field in 1986. AACD Accreditation has grown into the preeminent cosmetic dentistry testing standard within dentistry, including written exams and submission of actual case-work in specific cosmetic dentistry disciplines.

Seeing an AACD accredited dentist helps to ensure that you are receiving care from a dentist with advanced knowledge, skills, and expertise in cosmetic dentistry.

Each year, Seattle Met Magazine assembles a list of the best dental practitioners in the Seattle metropolitan area. Dr. Swanson has been voted “Best DDS” every year since the award’s inception in 2007. In 2020, both Dr. Swanson and Dr. Mills were awarded this honor. When you come to our office, you are seeing not just one but two of the top dentists in the Puget Sound area.
